Medicare & Routine Foot Care
in New York, NY

Medicare covers routine foot care — trimming nails, corns, and calluses — when a qualifying condition like diabetes, neuropathy, or poor circulation makes self-care unsafe. Dr. Suzanne Levine, DPM provides covered routine care on the Upper East Side, typically every 61 days. See all Medicare-covered podiatry services.

Medicare Coverage for Routine Foot Care: What's Included

Medicare normally excludes routine foot care — unless a systemic condition makes it medically risky for you to do it yourself. With a documented qualifying condition, nail trimming and corn/callus care become covered benefits.

Diabetes with neuropathy or circulation problems, peripheral arterial disease, chronic venous insufficiency, and certain neurological conditions all qualify. We document your condition so visits bill correctly.

Thickened, fungal, or hard-to-reach nails are professionally trimmed and thinned — covered every 61 days for qualifying patients, and far safer than struggling at home.

Painful corns and calluses are reduced professionally, with the pressure points that cause them addressed — covered under the same qualifying rules.

Every routine visit doubles as a screening: skin integrity, circulation, sensation, and early signs of trouble are checked before they become wounds.

Painful thickened nails (onychomycosis or trauma) are debrided as covered care for qualifying patients. We will be honest: laser cosmetic treatment is not a Medicare benefit.

Covered routine care recurs approximately every 61 days. We set your standing schedule so your feet — and your coverage — stay on track.

Call or book online, and bring your Medicare card (or Medicare Advantage card) plus any supplemental insurance. Our front desk verifies your coverage before you are seen, so there are no billing surprises.

Dr. Levine examines your feet, reviews your history, and orders any covered diagnostics — such as in-office X-rays — needed for an accurate diagnosis of your medically necessary routine foot care needs.

Medicare covers care that is medically necessary, so we document your diagnosis and plan thoroughly. You will know exactly what is covered before treatment begins.

Many covered treatments are performed right in our Park Avenue office at your first or second visit.

Covered follow-up visits track your progress and keep small problems from becoming big ones.

Who Qualifies for Medicare-Covered Routine Foot Care?

You qualify for Medicare-covered routine foot care if you are enrolled in Part B (or Medicare Advantage) and have a documented condition that makes self-care unsafe, such as:

  • Diabetes with neuropathy or circulation compromise.
  • Peripheral arterial disease or poor circulation.
  • Peripheral neuropathy — loss of protective sensation from any cause.
  • Conditions limiting reach or vision combined with medical risk factors.

Without a qualifying condition, routine care is self-pay — we will tell you clearly which applies and what it costs before we begin.

What Will Routine Foot Care Cost With Medicare?

For qualifying patients, Original Medicare Part B covers 80% of the approved amount for routine foot care after your deductible; Medigap plans typically cover the remaining 20%, making visits low- or no-cost. Care recurs approximately every 61 days.

Medicare Advantage plans cover the same benefit with plan copays. If you do not qualify, we offer transparent self-pay pricing — no surprises either way.
