What Will Heel Pain Treatment Cost With Medicare?
With Original Medicare, Part B pays 80% of the approved amount for heel pain visits, X-rays, and injections after your annual deductible; Medigap plans typically cover the remaining 20%. A course of treatment usually spans two to four covered visits.

Yes — examination, X-rays, strapping, injections, and follow-up care are all covered as medically necessary under Part B.
Are cortisone injections for heel pain covered?
Yes. In-office corticosteroid injections for plantar fasciitis and heel spur pain are covered at the standard 80/20 Part B split.
Does Medicare cover orthotics for heel pain?
Generally no — custom orthotics are only covered in limited circumstances (such as shoe inserts within the diabetic therapeutic shoe benefit). We will tell you clearly if any device we recommend is self-pay.
How many visits will treatment take?
Most heel pain improves substantially within two to four visits over six to twelve weeks. Each medically necessary visit is covered.
When is heel surgery covered?
When documented conservative care has failed over several months, Medicare covers surgical options such as plantar fascia release. Few patients ever need it.
Do I need a referral to be seen?
Not with Original Medicare. Some Medicare Advantage HMO plans require one — we will check your plan when you call.
